van Rijn post by: Michael Bianchi
The self portraits Van Rijn did and his other work to me seemed to get more and more complicated and then finally at the end, when he got older he slipped a little and didn't pay attention enough to detail. At a young age it seemed to me like he focused on just a certain thing and the colors blended but not as well as they could. I think this is shown the best in all of his self portraits. Then in his middle age like in the picture called "The little children being brought to Jesus." The focus is on Jesus but he pays a great amount of detail to the people around him also. In his self portraits he also adds back grounds, and puts other things in his pictures to tell more of a story. By the time he was close close to his death it seemed to me like old age was setting in. This is what i feel about Van Rijn and his work through out his life and how it evolved.
